The Anniston City Council wednesday evening voted to
remove Greg Kernion from the board of directors of Regional Medical Center.
The 4-1 vote comes a day after the hospital's board barred City Manager Brian Johnson who the council recently appointed to the board from a closed door meeting. The city and the board have had disagreements recently over access to information
about the hospital's operations
and governance.
Kernion had served as the hospital board's chairman.
Councilman David Reddick cast the lone vote against
removing Kernion. The council voted to appoint Paula Watkins to replace Kernion
on the 15-member board of directors. The cities of Anniston, Jacksonville and
Oxford, along with the Calhoun County Commission, each appoint members to the
board.
