Delays expect on Interstate 20 beginning tonight

Construction on Interstate 20 will shift westbound traffic to the outside lanes from Alabama 46 at Heflin exit 205 to west of the Tallapoosa River at mile marker 209  beginning at 8 p.m. This evening, according to state transportation officials.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane while the shift is being made from about 8 p.m today to about 6 a.m. on Friday,.ALDOT warns drivers to expect delays during the traffic shift and asks commuters to consider other routes over the 10-hour period.

The construction is part of an ongoing project to widen I-20 to three lanes in each direction.
