Body discovered in Etowah County, two suspects in custody in Florida

Investigators discovered a body buried in a shallow grave in Etowah County Wednesday.
The chief investigator for the Sheriff's Office, Mike Jones, said they received a call Tuesday afternoon from the Marshall County Sheriff's Office about a missing persons case.
Jones said They're working a homicide in their county and they had developed some information that they thought maybe the possible victim was in  Etowah county.
Investigators located what they thought might be a possible grave site.  They posted deputies through the night so they could work out here in the daylight on Wednesday.

Etowah County deputies returned to the Cove Springs area Wednesday morning with members of the Center for Applied Forensics at Jacksonville State University, Attalla Police Department officers, and deputies from Marshall County.
They discovered what is human remains in a shallow grave in a chert pit.
Marshall County investigators identified the body as 60-year-old Judith McElroy Carranza.
Carranza lived in Horton, and her family contacted local law enforcement April 1 to report she was missing.  Marshall County Sheriff Scott Walls said his deputies joined the case Monday, and got a tip Tuesday that led investigators to the chert pit in Etowah County.  Police in Panama City, Florida, arrested 21-year-old Elizabeth Dawn Austin of Horton, Alabama for murder and the Marshall County Sheriff's Office is working to bring Austin back to the county where bond is set at $250,000.  A second person 24 year old Curtis Lee Austin of Horton, is also in custody in Panama City and awaits extradition to the Marshall County Jail in Guntersville.  He and Elizabeth Austin are accused of killing 60-year-old Judith McElroy Carranza.  Curtis Austin had active warrants out of Etowah County, Alabama for armed robbery.  Elizabeth Austin had an active warrant for Marshall County, Alabama for murder and Etowah County, Alabama wished for a hold to be placed on her for armed robbery.  Both are held in florida awaiting extradition back to Alabama
