The Etowah County Commission on Tuesday approved a
resolution supporting the extension of Interstate 759.
Commission Chairman Larry Payne said the project must be a
No. 1 priority for Etowah County, especially now that traffic congestion has
increased so dramatically on East Meighan Boulevard. The resolution states the I-759 project was
intended to be a connector from I-59 to U.S. Highway 431, to build a main
thoroughfare to enhance the region’s industrial, commercial and hospitality
prospects. It ends now near Gadsden
State Community College and Academy Sports.
The resolution states the completion of the project would
enable future growth of commercial, industrial and residential sectors, as well
as improve public safety, health and the livelihood of all residents, employees
and employers throughout Etowah County.
