The Jacksonville State University board of trustees approved
a 6 percent increase in tuition Monday during their quarterly meeting,
following two years with no increase in undergraduate tuition. The increase
will help fund a 2 percent pay raise for faculty and staff, who last received
an increase in 2013.
Undergraduate tuition will increase by $17 to $300 per
credit hour. That means Alabama residents who are full-time students will pay
at least $7,200 for tuition per year. Students from most places out-of-state
will pay double that.
Tuition for graduate and doctoral students also will rise by
$22 to $371 per credit hour, about $6,678 per year for full-time grad students.
Trustees said they weigh tuition increases seriously, and
promised to adjust the tuition increase if more state funding is allocated to
JSU from the Legislature this year.
