The American Civil Liberties Union files a lawsuit against
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin and two deputies. The lawsuit cites what the group calls
"unannounced, random, and suspicionless" searches of the home where a
registered sex offender lived. The three
family members in the home were not named but rather referred to as “John, Jane
and James Doe.” According to the ACLU, one member of the family is a registered
sex offender because of an offense committed as a child. The suit contends he
has "fulfilled every requirement" under the offender registration and
community notification act. ACLU Attorney Brandon Buskey says the searches are
due to the sheriff’s policy, so he fears it’s happening to families across the
county.
