Etowah county authorities say the Friday death of a
3-year-old Altoona boy who was found in a car appears to have been an accident.
Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin says an autopsy is being performed. But
officers don't suspect foul play was involved in the death of the child, who
lived in Altoona. The boy died Friday at a hospital in Birmingham. He was found
in the car on September 1. A statement from the sheriff says the child left his
home on his own and got into an unlocked car. The mother couldn't find the boy
when she awoke from a nap, prompting her to look outside. Authorities say the
woman called 911 immediately when she found her son unresponsive in the vehicle.
