The Gadsden City Council voted Tuesday to begin the next
step to replacing a bridge on a busy city street. The council authorized the Mayor to enter
into an agreement with ALDOT to begin Right-of-Way acquisition for the
replacement of the South 11th Street Bridge over Black Creek. Councillman Bill Stewart said the bridge
carries a lot of traffic to and from the Gadsden city high school.Bids are expected to open in May with the
total project estimated at $1.3 million. The right-of-way acquisition is
expected to cost about $70,000 with ALDOT covering $56,000 of the budget with
the city's match set at $14,000.
