The Oxford Commercial Development Authority board announced
Tuesday that an Aldi grocery store is planned for the city. Board members Tuesday discussed the
Germany-based grocery chain’s plan to build at the intersection of Alabama 21
and Hamric Drive, agreeing to transfer land at that site back to the developer,
Holmes Properties, which had originally owned the property. Aldi
has not confirmed plans to open a store in Oxford, but the CDA board
voted Tuesday to send an environmental study of the site to Aldi for the
company’s review. Board members also
said Tuesday that A Milo’s restaurant is planned for the site of the former
Shell gas station on Grace Street, just north of the Key West Inn in oxford. At
a Planning Commission meeting Tuesday, members agreed to allow the company to
operate a drive-through at the location.
