The Etowah County Board of Education has approved a change to a seven period schedule when the new school year begins in the fall. School officials say The new schedule will provide more flexibility and consistency, and give students more opportunities. Students have been on a block schedule for 17 years. The block schedule is four 90-minute classes for one semester, with the curriculum changing in the other semester. With the seven-period schedule, students will have seven 50-minute classes, all the same for both semesters. Sardis High School went to the seven-period schedule this year as a pilot program, and officials said the results have proved there are many more positives than negatives in the change.
