Two area women sentenced for Unemployment Compensation Fraud

Two Northeast Alabama women are among several people recently prosecuted for unemployment compensation fraud.  Beeta N. Robinson, of Attalla, pleaded guilty Feb. 10 in Etowah County Circuit Court to second-degree theft of property.  An investigation by the Department of Labor’s Benefit Payment Control Section determined that Roberts received $2,260 in benefits to which she was not entitled.  She was sentenced to 123 months in jail, which was split so that she will serve 12 months. She also was ordered to pay court costs and restitution in the amount of the benefits received illegally.  Pamela D. Slater, of Anniston, pleaded guilty Feb. 18 in Calhoun County District Court. An investigation determined she received $2,312 in benefits to which she was not entitled.  She was sentenced to a year in jail, which was suspended for two years pending restitution, and two years of unsupervised probation. She also was fined $100 and ordered to pay court costs and restitution in the amount of the benefits received illegally.
