The Oxford city council Tuesday approved an additional
traffic study at the future site of a FED EX facility in Eastaboga. The council hopes the new study will help
ease the fears of area residents concerned about the increased traffic.
Residents along Fish Hatchery Lane
expressed concern about possible accidents caused by FedEx tractor
trailer trucks along the narrow roads. The council agreed Tuesday to pay
Birmingham engineering firm Sain and Associates $5,000 to conduct the traffic
study. The study comes at the request of the Alabama Department of
Transportation. The first traffic study,
done in January by Sain and Associates, came with recommendations to widen Fish
Hatchery Road. State transportation
officials requested the second study to determine if installing turn lanes on
U.S. 78 into the FedEx facility would be the best option. U.S. 78 intersects
with Fish Hatchery Lane at the FedEx site.
