Rep. Craig Ford |
The Alabama House passed a bill Thursday introduc Ford initially sought
approval for the resolution from the entire local delegation, but when Sen.
Phil Williams, R-Rainbow City, expressed concerns about the need for the
authority, Ford said he would seek approval just in the House. The main
difference between the original resolution and the House resolution concerns
the make-up of the authority. The resolution passed Thursday no longer calls
for the area’s state senator to have an appointment to the authority. The authority “shall study and report on the
issue of developing a mega sports complex for Etowah County,” according to the
resolution. The resolution said the study would examine the feasibility of a
complex, what should be included, the location, cost of acquiring and
maintaining a complex and possible funding sources. The authority, would then
report to the legislative delegation no later than 60 days before the beginning
of the 2015 regular session.
