Keith Jusandto Taylor
A 33 year old Sylacauga man is being held without bond after being arrested for four counts of capital murder.   Keith Jusandto Taylor, of Odens Mill Road, was arrested by Talladega County Sheriff’s Deputies for two counts each of murder committed during the course of a robbery in the first degree and two counts of murder committed during a burglary in the first or second degree. Sheriff Jimmy Kilgore said Monday that Taylor had been incarcerated in the federal prison in Yazoo City, Miss., but had been released and was extradited back to Alabama on Friday.
Taylor and 35 year oldDerrick DeCarlo Arnold, were both charged with the murder of Jerome Garrett Jr. in front of Garrett’s residence on Tuscaloosa Avenue in the mill village on June 25, 2011. At the time, investigators said Garrett and Arnold appeared to have gotten into a violent altercation. Arnold also suffered gunshot wounds, for which he was treated and treated and released at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.
Investigators believe it was Taylor who fired the shot that killed Garrett. He was found by the side of the road near his home, dead from a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
Arnold and a Talladega woman were captured by U.S. Marshals in Gadsden about a month after the shooting. By that time, Taylor had also been identified, but was already in federal custody.
Kilgore said Taylor has already been indicted by a grand jury on the capital murder charges.
Arnold pleaded guilty to the lesser included charge of felony murder in March 2013, and is serving a life sentence at Donaldson Correctional Facility.
If convicted by a jury of capital murder, Taylor would be sentenced to either life in prison without the possibility of parole or death by lethal injection
