Cold weather forces school delays and opening of Warming Stations



Several school districts in the area have announced late starts for Thursday morning as the temperature is expected to drop possibly into single digits.
 Anniston City Schools, Calhoun County Schools,  Oxford City Schools, Jacksonville City Schools, Jacksonville Christian Academy, Sacred Heart, Etowah County, Gadsden City and Attalla schools are delaying start time by two hours Thursday.
DeKalb County schools and Cornerstone Christian Academy will start three hours later than usual and Fort Payne City schools will open at 10 a.m. Thursday, according to the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency. Fort Payne City buses will run two and a half hours later than their normal pickup times.
Albertville City, Guntersville City and Marshall County schools also will have three-hour delays in starting Thursday. Albertville bus routes will begin three hours later than usual.
The National Weather Service has issued a hard freeze warning for much of central Alabama, including Calhoun, Cleburne and Talladega counties. The freeze warning is to be in effect from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 9 a.m. Thursday., with temperatures expected to be in the 8 to 14 degree range in areas north of Interstate 20.
