Wisconsin shoplifting arrests lead to Alabama murder investigation and arrest

Christopher "Biggun" Jones

A shoplifting arrest in Wisconsin turned into a bizarre murder investigation in Alabama's Blount County, and led authorities to the body of a missing Cullman County man.
Blount County District Attorney Pamela Casey and Sheriff Loyd Arrington
announced the arrests of three people in connection with the disappearance and death of a 53-year-old Holly Pond man who has been missing since Christmas Day.
33 year old Matthew Brent Thrasher,  of Hayden, and 30-year-old Stephanie Underwood, of Hanceville, were taken into custody in Kenosha County, Wisconsin after a shoplifting incident. Authorities there realized the car they were in was stolen car, and further investigation turned up blood inside the vehicle.
A third person,22 year old Christopher "Biggun" Jones,  is in custody in Blount County. Sheriff's investigators found the body of David Hayes off Buck Ridge Road on Pine Mountain.
Casey and Blount County sheriff's investigators went to Wisconsin over the weekend to meet with detectives there. Thrasher and Underwood remain in the Kenosha County Jail awaiting extradition, according to jail records there.
They are charged with petty theft, resisting or obstructing an officer and retail theft. In Alabama, they are charged with first-degree theft of property,.
Jones, is charged with Hayes' murder. He is being held in the Blount County Correctional Facility on $500,000 bond.
Thrasher and Underwood were arrested Jan. 13 in Kenosha. They were in a four-door Chrysler Sebring and, after running the license plate through a nationwide law enforcement database, authorities learned the car was registered to Hayes. Hayes had not been seen or heard from by friends and family since Christmas Eve.
Wisconsin authorities obtained a search warrant for the Sebring, and later found "brown, reddish stains" that tested positive for human blood, according to an arrest affidavit for Jones. Underwood and Thrasher were then questioned by authorities, and they indicated Hayes was severely injured or killed at 301 Warrior Pass, which is in Hayden.
That home belonged to Jones. Thrasher and Underwood told authorities that Jones was home at the time, and took part in the attack on Hayes.
A search of Jones' home found blood in the living room and in the hallway leading to the door. A wooden object matching the description of the weapon used to beat Hayes was found outside of Jones' home.

Casey said she expects additional charges to be filed in the case.
