A Gadsden woman who was released to Community Corrections
after being charged in the murder of her boyfriend is back in jail after
violating the conditions of her bond.
52 year old Peggy Renata Martin, was charged in the stabbing death of 52 year
old Robert Culberson. The couple lived on Dwight Avenue when Martin went to a
neighbor’s house about 3 p.m. Nov. 22, 2013, asking that someone check on
Culberson because she had stabbed him.
Police arrived to find Martin and the two neighbors sitting
on the porch, and Culberson inside the house on the kitchen floor with a stab
wound near his heart. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Martin was arrested the day of the incident. She was
released to Community Corrections March 10, 2014, under what Etowah County
Chief Deputy District Attorney Marcus Reid said were “strict conditions.” Among
them was a requirement that she enroll in drug treatment.
She was jailed again on May 15, 2014, because she failed to
comply with the conditions of her release. Her bond was reinstated and she was
released to Community Corrections again on Dec. 17, 2014.
Martin was jailed again on April 14 to serve a three-day
sanction after she tested positive on a drug screen for methamphetamine. She
was released April 17.
Reid said her arrest Monday came after another revocation of
her bond.
