State marine officers are combing the waters of the Coosa
River in Etowah County for a drowning victim.
The Etowah County Sheriff's Office said that a 28-year-old man was
boating with friends Sunday afternoon about two miles downstream of Rainbow
Landing when he went into the water and never resurfaced. Friends of the man said he did not know how
to swim. The name of the victim has not
been released, pending notification of next of kin. ALEA Marine Patrol is in charge of the scene,
with assistance from Southside police and fire, Rainbow City police and fire,
AMED Ambulance Service and the Etowah County Sheriff's Office Crisis Chaplaincy
Team.
