A man was arrested in Cleburne County Wednesday after
allegedly shooting at a bear in Heflin the day before. Capt. Johnny Johnson an enforcement
supervisor from the Alabama Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division said the
man was arrested Wednesday by a member of the Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries
District 2 Enforcement Section, after Heflin animal control officer William
Chapman saw him allegedly shooting at a bear on Tumblin Mill Road. The bear had
wandered into the city and was seen at WM Grocery and in the neighborhoods west
of the store on Tuesday. Johnson said Bears
are a protected species. The minimum fine for a person found guilty of the
misdemeanor charge is $2,000.
The man, was released on bond, Johnson said, and he has a
court date in August.
