Gadsden Bark Park

Dog owners in Gadsden may see a bark park in the future.
The Etowah County Humane Society Pet Rescue and Adoption Center has included plans for a dog park in its 5-year long-range plan covering 2014 through 2020, according to Executive Director Christi Brown .
Brown said the group would like to form a steering committee to begin looking into a dog park that might be combined with a veterans park.
She said there would be areas for large dogs and small dogs where they could be walked and exercised that would be run by the Humane Society.
A 2-acre site would be needed, according to the plan. Brown said the park could be accessed with a swipe card and would have small membership dues to offset costs. It could have a water and food station and perhaps a water feature, depending on what the steering committee decides.
She said there have been discussions with the city to see if space would be available near the Riverfront Park in East Gadsden. The Humane Society had considered a location for the park at its center on Brooke Avenue, but it was decided a more central location was needed.
