Attalla wants full time mayor

The Attalla City Council passed a resolution Feb 2^nd for the cities next mayor to be a full time mayor.  The position of mayor is officially part time, but Mayor Larry Means said he and other previous Attalla mayors have worked full time.

Means said Rep. Craig Ford, has agreed to sponsor legislation to make the position full time. He said the time he has spent this term working on problems with the city’s sewer system made the council decide to request the change.

The mayor’s current salary is $27,000 annually, but Means said the council did not include a new salary in the resolution. He said the council wanted to wait and see what the city’s budget looked like before setting a salary.

The salary would have to be set six months before city elections, which will be in 2016.
