Guilty Plea in Cherokee Murder



39 year old Vinnie Leroy Keaton pleaded guilty Wednesday morning to capital murder charges in the 2012 killing of a woman whose body was found at the Gadsden State Cherokee Campus.
Keaton, entered the plea before Cherokee County Circuit Judge Jeremy Taylor in the murder of 32 year old Melissa Leeann Hudgins.
Sentencing is set for March 16.
Police began searching for Keaton in November 2012 after Hudgins, of Cedar Bluff, was found dead in the arena at the Centre campus of Gadsden State Community College in Centre.
U.S. Marshals originally arrested Keaton in Cookeville, Tenn., where he was charged with theft of Hudgins' car.
Authorities said at the time Hudgins and Keaton were co-workers with a cleaning company that did work for the college.
