Oxford Donut shop padlocked for non payment of taxes

A Calhoun County judge ordered Thursday that Lamar’s Donuts in Oxford be padlocked for nonpayment of taxes.
The owners of the Hamrick Drive doughnut shop owed a total of $195,081 in unpaid state and local taxes, according to a complaint filed by the state Department of Revenue in February 2014.
Subsequent court filings show that the business had begun making some partial payments on those debts. On June 16, 2014, Calhoun County Circuit Judge John Thomason ordered the business to begin paying $800 monthly through Jan. 15, 2015, or face being closed.
The company failed to comply with that order, according to court records. On Thursday, Thomason ordered Calhoun County Sheriff Larry Amerson to padlock the business “at the earliest feasible time.”
The business is to remain closed until all taxes, penalties and interest are paid in full, according to the complaint, filed by David Avery III, assistant counsel for the Alabama Department of Revenue.
Nancy Robertson, the registered agent for Davis-Venture Properties, which operates the Oxford franchise location of Lamar’s Donuts, declined to comment on the matter.
Lamar’s Donuts, headquartered in Colorado, has 27 locations in six states, according to the company’s website.
Ron King, spokesman for Lamar’s Donuts, said that the company has very limited knowledge of the finances of its franchise owners, but that the Oxford location is the only Lamar’s donuts in the southeast.
