The Gadsden City Council is set to discuss two ordinances
on seven-day alcohol sales when they meet next Tuesday — one would allow sales
after noon on Sundays in restaurants and retail businesses and another that
would allow sales as early as 6 a.m. on Sunday.
During this Tuesday’s work session, the council discussed
an ordinance drafted by City Attorney Lee Roberts that would allow on- and
off-premise sales of alcohol after noon on Sundays. The ordinance would allow
bars to sell alcohol after 1 p.m.
Roberts said Thursday he has prepared a second ordinance
that allows the sale of alcohol seven days a week but not between the hours of
2 a.m. and 6 a.m. on Sundays.
The issue will be discussed during the council’s 10 a.m.
work session, and Roberts said council members will decide which one they will
consider.
The referendum passed by gadsden voters did not specify
times, leaving it up to the council to set the hours.
