A jury was selected Monday morning to try a Talladega man
accused of two counts of burglary in the first degree stemming from an incident
in November 2012.
If convicted, 27
year old Takarius Jebraun Turner, would
face 20 to 99 years or life in prison.
The victim testified Monday afternoon that he was in bed
asleep on the night of the burglary when he awoke to find Turner standing over
his bed holding a large gun.
The victim reached for a gun on his nightstand when Turner
turned away. He said Turner then fired the first shot, using what was later
identified as an AK-47. Turner was shot with a .45.
Both men suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted
to University of Alabama Birmingham Hospital for treatment.
Testimony in that case is expected to continue today
(Tuesday).
