Gadsden officers honored for saving life of AT&T employee

Three Gadsden police officers have received Lifesaver Awards after resuscitating an AT&T employee suffering from cardiac arrest.
At Tuesday's regular meeting of the Gadsden City Council, Mayor Sherman Guyton read the  story about how the three officers happened upon Danny Day, just moments after he collapsed onto a sidewalk on Forrest Avenue on August 25.
Day had been pulling cable, and his hat was still spinning on the ground when officers found him.
Sergeant Josh Russell, commander of the department's special projects team, and Officer Jason Coffman, performed CPR.
Day was bleeding from the back of his head and his face was turning blue. Coffman wasn't able to find a pulse.
Officer John Hallman, who had been patrolling nearby, arrived and assisted.
Medics transported Day to Riverview Regional Medical Center, where doctors credited the quick work of the officers in saving Day's life.
Day said he remembers very little between feeling shortness of breath while pulling cable and waking up in the emergency room.
Day, a 35-year veteran of AT&T, was back on the job
Monday.
Day had the chance to meet the officers who saved his life for the first time at the awards ceremony.
He personally presented a $1,000 check from AT&T to the charity of the officers' choice, Cornerstone Ranch.
