A 59-year-old Lincoln man is on trial this week in Calhoun
County Circuit court, accused of sexually abusing a relative . A jury heard
opening statements in the case monday afternoon. The defendant faces charges of first-degree
sodomy and sexual abuse of a child younger than 12. Prosecutors said There is no physical
evidence to present, saying that the jury would need to pay special attention
to the testimony of witnesses called by both the prosecution and defense. The
prosecution’s first item of evidence was video testimony by the victim,
recorded in June of this year. In the video, the male victim outlined the
nature and extent of the alleged abuse.In the defense’s opening statement,
attorney Carey Kirby also asked jurors to watch the video testimony carefully.
Kirby said it should be clear that the young child was coached.
