Effective Oct. 1, the Alabama Red Cross will consolidate
chapters — from 18 to six — which will operate under new names.
The North Alabama Chapter will serve Cherokee, Colbert,
DeKalb, Etowah, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison,
Marshall and Morgan counties.
Officials say The reorganization is designed to better use
resources, to devote more of resources
to the people served by the Red Cross than to “bricks and mortar.”
Alabama’s
Red Cross will continue to provide statewide disaster
response, health and safety courses, and emergency communications for the
military through a model that will enable it to meet the growing demand for its
services while making the very best use of the donated dollar, the statement
continued.
Officials say that consolidating chapters will mean
volunteers will play an even more vital role in the organization that has
always depended upon them.
The North Alabama Chapter will be headed by Executive
Director Kris Anderson.
