The state Fire Marshal's Office has forced the closure of
the Vann Thomas Motel in Anniston, according to the owner’s son.
That means the registered sex offenders who had lived there
are now scattered across the area, according to Calhoun County Sheriff Larry
Amerson. All of the motels residents
have moved out, with many of the residents saying they are now homeless. Some even saying they will be forced to live
in their cars. As for the sex offenders,
Despite being homeless, Amerson said they will have to report weekly on their
wherebouts as to where they are staying.
The fire marshall closed the motel stating the
Structure failed to meet fire codes.
