Jerome Leon Curd |
Authorities said a suspect in the Union State Bank burglary
was taken into custody late Monday night.
Pell City Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt.
Don Newton said the suspect, 40 year old Jerome Leon Curd, was apprehended by the Glencoe Po
lice Department.
Newton said the man
was taken into custody after Glencoe police stopped a black pickup truck
reported stolen from Pell City. The suspect was driving the vehicle at the time
of his arrest. Newton said police stopped the vehicle about midnight Monday.
A picture of the stolen truck was posted on the Pell City
Police Department’s Facebook page early Monday, along with a photograph of a
suspect, who was described as having facial hair, standing approximately 6-feet
tall and weighing 150 pounds.
Newton said Tuesday the subject had not been charged with
any of the burglaries.
Newton said task force investigators were traveling to
Glencoe to interview the suspect.
At approximately 12:57 p.m., Sunday, police received a
burglary alarm call at the main branch office of Union State Bank on 20th
Street North.
Newton said when an officer and a bank employee key-holder
made entry, a black male was discovered inside the bank.
“The officer had the subject on the ground and radioed that
he had a person in the bank and requested backup,” “As the officer moved to see
if there were other suspects, the subject got up and ran, exiting the bank
through the back door into the parking lot.”
Authorities said two additional businesses were broken into
Sunday night.
Newton said the burglary suspect damaged the bank vault
attempting to open it, but nothing was stolen from the bank.
He said a taskforce of Pell City police and the FBI are
continuing the investigation.
