A spokesperson for Blue Bell Creameries says there will be
approximately 40 layoffs at the Sylacauga plant. In addition, another 182
people will be furloughed.
Blue Bell also says there will be about 5 layoffs and 70
furloughs at Alabama branch and distribution facilities.
On Friday, Blue Bell Creameries announced it would lay off
around 37 percent of its workforce.
In total, the company is laying off 750 full-time and 700
part-time employees, along with furloughing another 1,400.
This is all in the wake of the listeria outbreak. According
to CEO and President Paul Kruse, the cleaning of the four production plants
where the outbreak started will take longer than they originally thought.
