Gadsden police investigating assaults at Juvenile treatment facility

Gadsden police are investigating a Monday night incident at a juvenile treatment facility on Scenic Highway.

 Officers responded to a report of a “riot” and found multiple patients were being restrained by nurses and orderlies. Officers tried to control the situation by handcuffing a number of riotous patients.

 Three juveniles were lying on the floor unconscious, being stabilized by nurses, when police arrived.

 Reports indicated that juveniles being treated had been involved in individual altercations with another juvenile. According to the reports, three juveniles were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Gadsden Police Capt. Paul Cody said police are investigating each reported assault as a stand-alone incident.
