Sheriff seeks administrative inquiries

Sheriff Todd Entrekin

Etowah County Sheriff Todd Entrekin has asked the Etowah County Commission to begin an administrative inquiry related to two separate incidents.
It was determined a purchase order on April 24 for $499.40 for tubes and tires on a vehicle was taken from Entrekin’s budget, but it wasn’t for a vehicle in the sheriff’s office fleet. It later was determined the amount was for an expenditure for the coroner’s office.
Entrekin said the issue was discovered when it was determined the purchase order was not approved by Lee Taylor, chief of administration, but was charged to his budget.
Entrekin also asked the commission for an inquiry about a security breach May 18 in the County Commission’s payroll program, administered through the personnel department.
He said the employee who is authorized to access the payroll information for the sheriff’s office was denied access to the system, and it was determined that the account was compromised when the password was changed without the employee’s knowledge.
Entrekin asked the commission to let him know the findings following those inquiries.
