A 17-year-old Talladega man has been charged with shooting
into an occupied vehicle in connection with a March incident in Knoxville Homes.
Kendrick Lee Kelly was being held on a $50,000 bond set by
District Court Judge Jeb Fannin.
Kelly was charged with being involved in a shootout in
Knoxville and the basketball court at Edythe Sims Park on March 29.
officers initially responded to a call regarding shots being
fired from a porch in Knoxville Homes. Callers initially reported the shooter
may have been shot in the leg, but he was gone when officers arrived, and
bystanders said they did not think he had been hit.
In what appeared to be a related incident, a box-type
Chevrolet Caprice pulled into the parking lot at Edythe Sims Park, with a black
male leaning out and firing several shots into a 2005 Chevrolet Crown Victoria
parked there.
There were two people in the Crown Victoria at the time of
the shooting,. Both of these people jumped out and ran.
Kelly is accused of being the person in the Caprice that was
firing into the Crown Victoria. Investigators found at least four holes in the
side of the vehicle, and the windows shot out.
Officers recovered eight .45 caliber shell casings at the
scene.
The investigation remains ongoing.
