Fund established for injured Gadsden Officer

Sgt. Gary Pierce

Gadsden Police Sgt. Gary Pierce remains in a Birmingham hospital after being seriously injured in a Saturday afternoon accident.  Pierce was injured when his motorcycle ran into another vehicle near the intersection of Rainbow Drive and Whorton Bend Road about 5 p.m. Saturday. Gadsden Police Capt. Paul Cody said the driver failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of Pierce.  Cody said Pierce’s friends and family are asking for any help they can get for future expenses. Cody said Pierce has a wife and two daughters. Pierce’s wife currently can’t work, as she is at UAB Hospital with her husband, staying in a nearby hotel.  Cody said money can be donated to any WinSouth Credit Union branch by asking the teller to donate to the Gary Pierce Recovery Fund. To donate online, visit http://1stresponders4christ.com and click the donate button. Those who wish to designate their funds solely for Pierce can do so at that time.
There also will be a “Ride for Gary P.” charity ride and poker run at 11 a.m. March 29. The cost is $15 per motorcycle and $5 per passenger. The event is hosted by One Way Out Riding Club and will begin at its clubhouse at 3415-B Rainbow Parkway in Rainbow City. For more information, call Kevin Walker, 256-613-1017.
