Fundraiser set for injured Gadsden Officer

The Gadsden community is continuing efforts to raise funds for the family of a Gadsden Police officer seriously injured in a motorcycle wreck last weekend..  Gadsdens Brute Fitness CrossFit will host a competition to help raise funds for Gary Pierce, who is in the neurological intensive care at UAB Hospital.  The event begins at 10 a.m. at Brute Fitness, which is near the intersection of Third and Locust streets. The competition will feature male and female athletes from throughout the Southeast competing in CrossFit events that involve weightlifting, track and field, gymnastics and other sports. Winners will receive prizes from Wright Exercise. About 11 a.m., there will be an auction that will run at the same time as the competition which will include items donated by more than 40 local businesses.  The Gary Pierce Recovery Fund is set up at WinSouth Credit Union, and anyone who wishes to donate can do so at any branch location.
