Police arrest thief after she tried to return items to victim

Anniston Police have man an arrest in a car burglary after investigators say the alleged thief contacted the victim after the crime.  Police say the theft occurred Sunday afternoon at the Kangaroo gas station on Lagarde Avenue. The victim went into the store to pay for her gas and returned to her vehicle to find several items taken.  The victim, a 37-year-old female, said her cell phone and work jacket were gone. Surveillance footage at the scene captured images of a woman taking the items from the victim's car and leaving the scene in a burgundy Nissan Altima.  Police were again contacted about later sunday  evening, when the victim's husband called to say he had been contacted by someone who told him to meet at Walgreens on Quintard Avenue to get the stolen property back.  Officers observed a woman exiting a burgundy Nissan Altima at the Walgreens, who they arrested after she attempted to flee on foot. The woman, 25 year old Kayleigh Danielle Pettus, of Anniston was charged with one count of unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle. The items were recovered in the car.
