Gadsden sunday sales bill in senate committee

Sen. Phil Williams

A bill calling for a referendum on Sunday alcohol sales in Gadsden is now  in the Alabama Senate.  The bill passed the House last week and Sen. Phil Williams, R-Rainbow City, said Monday he will sign the bill of out committee today  if it is ready for his signature. The bill could come up for a vote in the Senate as early as Thursday.  Williams said Monday that the bill will pass.
The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Craig Ford, D-Gadsden, would have the Gadsden City Council put the issue on the city election ballot Aug. 26.

The bill passed the House 39-0 with Ford, Rep. Mack Butler, R-Rainbow City, and Rep. Becky Nordgren, R-Gadsden, all voting for it.
