Gadsden council briefed on 2013 audit approves street repaving



The Gadsden City Council was briefed Tuesdays  by the cities accounting firm on the fiscal year 2013 audit.   The accountants told council members that the cities liabilities decreased slightly last year and the fund balance, or unallocated funds, increased by a little more than $2 million to $9.9 million.
Mayor Sherman Guyton said the city is in its best financial shape since he was elected in 2006. Attributing it to  a combination of the City Council, the mayor’s office, the employees, pulling together to try to stay on the right track so the city would be sound financially.

The   The repaving includes Forrest Avenue from Vandell Boulevard to the Attalla city limits; Padenreich Avenue from East Broad Street to Cloverdale Road and Ninth Street from Chestnut Street to Tuscaloosa Avenue.
Council approved an agreement Tuesday with the Alabama Department of Transportation for repaving a portion of Forrest Avenue and two other major streets in the city.
