Lincoln man indicted for wreckless murder in accident deaths

Kenneth Rex Latham

A 65 year old Lincoln man has been indicted on two counts of reckless murder.  Kenneth Rex Latham, was arrested on the indictment Monday morning and is being held without bond. Latham is accused of driving a 2013 Ford Fusion in a reckless manner when he collided with a 2003 Ford Focus on Alabama 21 between Sylacauga and Talladega on March 1, 2013.  28 year old Silemon Santiago, was behind the wheel of the Focus, and 23 year old Areli Jacinto who was pregnant, was in the passenger seat. Both were wearing seatbelts. There were four children, between the ages of 1 and 10 years old, in the back seat of the car.  Santiago and Jacinto were both pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. All four of the children were transported to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham following the accident. Latham himself was also injured in the accident.  In addition to the murder counts for Santiago and Jacinto, Latham was also indicted for the lesser offense of manslaughter in each case.  According to Assistant District Attorney Christina Kilgore, it is still too early to say whether or not Latham will face any additional charges stemming from injuries to the children.
