Hobson City leaders meet behind closed doors to discuss audit of city finances

Mayor Alberta McCrory

The Hobson City Town Council met in executive session Monday to receive and discuss a report on the citys finances.  Town attorney Jake Mathews said the executive session was to discuss the general reputation and character of a public employee.  The three visitors to Monday’s meeting sat in the chambers while council members met in a separate room at Town Hall to hear the report from Annette Markham, an accountant with the firm Joan Sanders and Associates. After the 24-minute executive session, the council returned without Markham, who left without returning to the chambers. The audit report was not discussed in the councils  regular meeting. Mayor Alberta McCrory said after the meeting that she asked for the audit to be done, but declined to say why. The town’s former clerk, Shelia Jones, violated her temporary hire after being arrested last August, town officials have said. Jones pleaded not guilty Jan. 16 to a charge of theft of property, a felony. A Calhoun County grand jury indicted her in October.
