2 injured when car plows thru anniston school playground

Two people were injured when a car crashed into an Anniston elementary school playground  Thursday morning.
School officials said all of the children were inside the gym instead of on the playground at the time of the crash.
According to Anniston police  a 1984 Pontiac Bonneville wrecked into the playground at 10th Street Elementary School around 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning.
The car's brakes malfunctioned while going over a hill and the driver swerved to avoid hitting other cars.
The Bonneville went through an intersection, crashed through a guardrail and a fence before finally hitting a swing set on the school's playground.
The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries and an 82-year-old passenger was transported to Regional Medical Center. There is no word yet on the passenger's condition.
A third passenger in the car was unharmed.
Anniston City Schools Superintendent Darren Douthitt said because of the cold weather, students who would normally be outside on the playground were inside the gym at the time of the wreck.
Douthitt expressed concern about the guardrail the car crashed through and said he hoped it would be reinforced when it's replaced.
Anniston city workers responded to the scene on Thursday morning and were working to repair the guardrail.
