Altoona man arrested in theft from police department



An Altoona man has been arrested by Gadsden police for allegedly stealing a man's jacket and other property while he was in the restroom  in the lobby at the Gadsden Police Department.
A Hokes Bluff man told police he left his insulated camo jacket, with his cellphone, reading glasses and a pack of cigarettes, on a couch in the lobby while he went to the restroom about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. When he came out, the jacket and other property was gone.
He told police there had been a man and woman in the lobby while he was there, and a Gadsden police captain contacted the woman, asking her to return to the police department.
When she returned, the man came with her and brought back to the jacket and other property. He told police he had picked it up by mistake.
The man was arrested for third-degree theft of property. According to the police report, the offense and the man's arrest were captured on video.
