Jury Acquits Cherokee County man in cold case murder of his wife

James Douglas Bussey

A Leesburg man accused of killing his wife in 1993 was found not guilty Friday by a Calhoun county jury.
A grand jury indicted 50-year-old James Douglas Bussey in 2011 for shooting Diana Bussey, who was 21 at the time of her death.
The trial began Monday, and the jury deliberated for about two hours after attorneys presented their closing arguments Friday morning.
Prosecutor Sheila Fields said investigators have not found evidence to point towards any other suspects. Fields said this trial was the state's one shot, so it is likely Diana Bussey's murder will go unsolved.
James Bussey's daughter from a previous relationship testified Wednesday that she believed her father was guilty.  Bussey testified Thursday, as did the son he had his wife shortly before her death.
