Man held on Attempted murder charges

Rainbow City police have arrested a 21-year-old man on attempted murder charges after he allegedly shot a 17-year-old in the chest Saturday night.  21 year old Kyllan Clark Smith,  of Rainbow City, is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center.  Officers responded about 7:30 p.m. Saturday to a reported shooting at Southtowne Apartments on Sutton Bridge Road and found a 17-year-old male in a vehicle. He had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest as well as other injuries. Medics responded and began treatment at the scene.  Witnesses gave officers a description of the offender, and Rainbow City and Southside officers, along with Etowah County Sheriff's deputies, began a search for him.  During the search, officers found a gun apparently used in the shooting, a .22-caliber revolver. They later found the suspect hiding in thick bushes behind one of the apartment buildings. He was taken into custody without any further incident.  The victim was flown to Birmingham for treatment.
