Driver jailed after striking cyclist in Albertville



Albertville police are investigating a Saturday morning traffic incident that sent a bicyclist to a hospital and a driver to jail.  Albertville   of Albertville, was struck by a vehicle about 7 a.m. while riding his bike near the intersection of Rose Road and McKinney Avenue.
Police say that 18 year old Joshua Garcia,
The driver,31 year old  Sergio Cervantes,  was driving on Rose Road in a Suzuki Reno when he allegedly struck Garcia, dragging him on the roadway. The driver then left the scene of the collision.
Officers were able to track Cervantes to a residence, believed to be his residence, on Turnpike Road. He was taken into custody and was placed in the Albertville City Jail on a felony charge of leaving the scene of the accident.
He could face more charges, because he is believed to have been under the influence at the time of the accident.
Garcia was taken to Marshall Medical Center South in Boaz, then flown to Huntsville Hospital with leg and head injuries.
Albertville’s Traffic Homicide Team continues to investigate the collision.
