Man arrested for stalking sons killer

Richard Nicholas Honea

Albertville police have arrested a Boaz man for stalking and harassing the man who shot and killed his son during a July altercation.  37 year old Richard Nicholas Honea, was jailed on $100,000 bond on a felony stalking charge and a misdemeanor harassment charge. He apparently has been released on bond.  Police say a grand jury examined the shooting of 16-year-old Garrett Honea and returned no charges against the young man who fired the shot finding it was self defense.  Since his son's death, Richard Honea allegedly has been following and harassing the young man. Police said it all came to a head this past weekend when Honea was involved in an altercation with the young man.  He was taken to the Albertville Police Department, then turned over to the Marshall County Sheriff's Department.  Garrett Honea was killed July 25th.   Honea and a 20-year-old Boaz man had been in an altercation at a convenience store, and moments later the 20-year-old drove away from the fracas and pulled into another business' parking lot to check his vehicle for damage.  Honea and other young men approached the vehicle, apparently in an attempt to start another altercation. The 20-year-old pulled a 9mm pistol and fired once, striking Honea in the chest. He then called police, and was detained but not charged in the incident.
