Gadsden prepares for city elections and vote on sunday liquor sales



Qualifying for Gadsden city elections begins July 1 and will run through July 15.  The mayor and all seven council seats will be on the ballot. Candidates qualify with the city clerk’s office, which is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  The qualifying fee is $50 for council and mayor.  The election will be held under new districts that were adopted by the City Council in January 2012.   According to City Clerk Iva Nelson, All registered voters in the city will receive a postcard in early July saying what district they are in and where they will vote.  The election will be Aug. 26, with runoff elections Oct. 7 if necessary. Also on the Aug. 26 ballot will be a referendum on allowing Sunday liquor sales in the city of Gadsden.
