A man sought by Attalla Police for scamming residents there
has been arrested by Southside Police for pulling the same scheme. 63 year old
James Bagley, has been charged with third-degree theft of property for the scam
in Southside and awaits similar charges for the two victims in Attalla.
Bagley’s scheme involved him placing a newspaper ad as an appliance repairman.
When people called for repairs, he’d go to their homes to “repair” the broken
appliance, would ask for money up front for parts, then would disappear with
the money. Southside Police received a
complaint about the same thing happening to a Southside resident. Police called
the number in the ad and asked Bagley to come for a repair. He was arrested
during a traffic stop on his way to the call. He was identified on the scene by
officers and again at the station by the victim. Bagley also is being investigated by the
Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board of Alabama because he said he was a
licensed and bonded repairman, which he is not. Bagley also was issued a
citation by the board at the time of his arrest. Bagley is being held in the Etowah County
Detention Center on $1,500 bond.
