A Jacksonville man remains in UAB hospital after a Monday
night shooting. According to the Jacksonville Police Department they responded
to the call of a person having been shot on Mountain Street at 11 p.m.
Monday. Officers and EMS arrived and
found Vilas Patel shot in the back. EMS stabilized Patel and moved him to the
parking lot of Pete Mathews Coliseum where he was picked up by a helicopter and
flown to UAB. Witnesses told officers that Patel received a phone call asking
him to meet a person. Patel drove to the
address and was shot while in the yard.
Jacksonville Police Department Chief Tommy Thompson says, the shooting
occurred a block away from the victim’s home and the department is looking for
more information. No arrests have been made yet. If you have any information on this case, you
